President's Message: In A Word, It's Busy

Aug 30, 2016

I’ve been doing a good bit of traveling over the past few months and I can sum up the mood and atmosphere in our industry in one word: BUSY.

Manufacturers, wholesalers, retailers, pretty much anyone involved with our industry is going gangbusters right now. We all know there are a lot of factors at work in this, and none more so than the uncertainty of our political situation. Strap in, it’s likely not going to change any time soon.

It’s also picking up behind the scenes at NASGW. We’re rapidly closing in on the 2016 NASGW Annual Meeting and Expo set for Kansas City, October 25-28. Our floor space is sold out and we’ve started a waiting list for those wanting to exhibit. Interest in membership is booming and interest in the Expo is at an all-time high.

Because it’s so busy, there are a few things I want to share with you as you get set to join us in mid-America in just a couple months.

  • First, for those of you looking to take part in our “Expo Exclusives” program, make sure you get signed up on the Expo Exclusive website. If you’re an exhibitor, you should have received emails and postcards about the program, which has the website link and information included. The deadline was today but we’re going to extend that out until the end of August to give everyone who wants to a chance to sign up. If you have questions, please give us a call or email Kelly Smykal at
  • On another show related note, we’re really pleased to announce that author, radio and television host and political commentator, Dana Loesch, will be the guest speaker for our 2016 NASGW Awards Banquet on Tuesday, October 25. With all that’s happening in the elections and in our country in general, Loesch is set to provide a rousing and entertaining presentation. If you haven’t already gotten your tickets, you can reserve those through website.
  • Finally, NASGW is excited to announce a brand new state firearms compliance portal, an exclusive member benefit. We’ve partnered with Orchid Advisors to create and support a ‘one-stop-shop’ for important information on state firearm regulations. You can find all the details on this new NASGW member benefit in this edition of InSights. Please check it out and let us know if you have questions. We know the growing importance of compliance so I know you’re going to find this portal very useful.

As you know, the normal summer slowdown didn’t really materialize this year. And by the looks of things, the next few months will be even crazier. Please, make sure to take time away. Seems counter intuitive, but trust me, before this is over, you’re going to need it.

“Never get so busy making a living… that you forget to make a life.”

Until next time,

Kenyon Gleason,
President NASGW
