Chairman’s Commentary: September 2015

Sep 3, 2015

For me, preparing for the NASGW Expo marks the beginning of Fall and the return of hunting season. Of course, this coincides with the return of our “busy” season. Therefore, some of you may be tempted to stay home and be sure all is going well. While I certainly understand that notion, taking just a few days away to visit the Expo will absolutely return on your investment of both time and money.

To maximize your show, be sure you have a plan. A critical part of your plan is scheduling appointments with the people you need to see. Bear in mind there’ll be hundreds of buyers from nearly 40 NASGW wholesale members, ready and willing to do business. Walking the show floor is great, and you’ll still likely learn a lot – but executed correctly, Expo week can easily turn into one of the most productive all year.

For those of you exhibiting at the NASGW show, I want to extend a personal THANK YOU for your continued support. I know that many of my wholesaler colleagues would agree. As exhibitors, you should also know that many wholesalers are currently investing in new facilities and in better ways of getting products to market more efficiently. As the market stabilizes, we all want to be prepared to assist our manufacturing and retail clients.

Speaking of the show specifically, I can tell you the industry is abuzz. I’m hearing rumblings of some great new products. Being among the first to see them is just one benefit of being an NASGW member. Furthermore, I know many of you will also be interested to seeing what kind of show specials our manufacturer partners are running. You’ll want to be sure to get in on these deals as we come off a challenging summer and into the heart of the year!

Not only is the show great for  learning about new products, hot deals and just seeing old friends, but it also presents a tremendous opportunity to catch up on the industry – where it’s been, where it is, and where it’s going. I don’t have to remind any of you that politics have direct ramifications on our industry in both the long and short term. That’s why we’ve asked NRA Executive Vice President & CEO Wayne LaPierre to keynote our event at the annual awards banquet. Mr. LaPierre will update us on the political landscape, its challenges and opportunities, and what it all means for the strength of our Second Amendment and our industry. There is simply no one who knows more or fights harder for our gun rights than Mr. LaPierre – you won’t want to miss his presentation.

On that note, I’ll just not-so-subtlety remind you that the NASGW Expo is just ONE MONTH AWAY. So please, make plans to join us in New Orleans. You’ll be glad you did.
