Chairman's Commentary: A Different Summer

Jun 28, 2016

Wow, this is a much different summer than we all expected, for many reasons.

With each passing week the political rhetoric continues to heat up, especially so now after the tragedy in Orlando. Our 2nd Amendment Rights are in the crosshairs. There is clearly a large amount of misinformation floating around on social media channels that depict our industry as the bad guy rather then dealing with the real problem. We can stand aside or we can join with our industry partners like the NRA, NSSF, CSF, and NASGW to help re-educate America, or at the very least provide more truth to the political spin we are subject to. This election is going to be crucial for us and we shouldn’t sit idly by.

Summer is supposed to be a slower time for our industry, a time to plan. With all that’s happening, that is changing quickly. The heated political rhetoric and charged environment means you have plenty to plan for, including increased uncertainty of the elections and for the upcoming NASGW Expo. If you have been reading our monthly Member Q&As, you continually see our members express the importance of the Expo to their business. If you haven’t been yet, we strongly encourage you to start making plans. This year’s Expo will be October 25-28 in Kansas City. We also encourage you to check out the available opportunities including:

  • Sponsorships
  • Advertising Opportunities
  • The Product Showcase

All details and information can be found at This show is shaping up to be our biggest yet and we hope to see you all in Kansas City.

As always, we will do everything we can to help you stay informed on important issues within the shooting sports industry. We hope you enjoy your summer and begin to plan for whatever the future holds for the shooting sports industry and our 2nd Amendment Rights.

Very Best!

Pete R. Brownell Chairman, NASGW
